Psychotherapy
At some time in our lives, each of us may feel overwhelmed and may need extra help dealing with our problems. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 30 million Americans need help dealing with feelings and problems that seem beyond their control - problems with a marriage or relationship, a family situation, a parenting issue, a child's behavior or emotional issue, the death of a loved one, depression, stress, or chronic anxiety. Those stresses of daily living can at times be significantly debilitating.  Sometimes we need outside help from a trained and licensed psychologist/social worker in order to work through these problems.  Through therapy, psychologists/social workers help millions of Americans of all ages live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.

Psychologists and social workers are highly trained professionals with expertise in the areas of human behavior, mental health assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and behavior change. They work with patients to change their feelings and attitudes and help them develop healthier, more effective patterns of behavior. Psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between an individual and a therapist. It provides a supportive environment to talk openly and confidentially about concerns and feelings.

There is convincing evidence that mose people who have at least several sessions of psychotherapy are far better off than untreated individuals with emotional difficulties. One major study showed that 50% of patients noticeably improved after 8 sesssions while 75% of individuals in therapy improved by the end of 6 months. Psychotherapy with children and teens is similar in effectiveness to psychotherapy with adults.
