Psychological Testing
Psychological tests are the laboratory procedures of the psychology profession which provide information regarding interests, aptitude, achievement, behavior, personality patterns, and/or intelligence. They can be used for clinical diagnosis, to predict future behavior,
and/or to plan and implement therapeutic treatment.

Achievement tests - most often utilized for educational purposes and to measure how much a person knows about a certain subject i.e, reading, mathematics, and/or written language. These tests are helpful in the identification of learning difficulties, strengths, and/or weaknesses.

Intelligence tests - determine the general intelligence of a person by using instruments arranged in a scale of increasing difficulty measuring intellectual problem solving and reasoning ability. Cognitive abilities measured often include; verbal reasoning, nonverbal reasoning, fluid intelligence, crystallized intelligence, auditory memory, visual memory, and spatial ability. These tests are a measure of a person's potential and helpful in the identification of cognitive difficulties, strenghts, and/or weaknesses.

Personality tests - are designed to provide a total assessment of the personality through a determination of the quality of a person's life adjustment. The more objective tests are self or caregiver administered paper and pencil tests which elicit responses to structured written questions. The less objective tests require the active administration by the psychologist of more complex stimuli to the patient in a face-to-face interview.  Recording and interpretation of the patient's spontaneous free-form responses are made by the psychologist.
